Are teenagers and twenty-somethings your target demographic? If so, then you definitely should be using Snapchat, whose primary users are ages 13-25, in your social media campaign to promote your brand. Snapchat is a popular social media app that allows users to send pictures or videos to their friends that are instant and temporary. A study done by Pew Research estimated that Snapchat has 26 million users per day in the United States alone. Those users send roughly 400 million snaps (pictures sent through the app) per day.
Clearly Snapchat can benefit your business and here are three ways how:
- Send secret announcements: Do you have a new product you are about to launch or bring back? Announce it as a secret announcement on Snapchat first. You can publicize that you’re releasing the secret on other social media platforms so your followers can find your Snapchat. Then release the secret! Taco Bell successfully did this when they brought back their Beefy Crunch Burrito.
- Offer a promotion or deal: Once you get 100 Snapchat followers or so, offer out a promotion through your Snapchat. This will encourage your followers to engage with you. Like sending the secret announcement, you can cross-promote through your other social media platforms to get yourself out there.
- Use brand advocates: Your followers are used to seeing what you post, so try having a guest poster who can snap for a day or two. Wet Seal gave its Snapchat to a 16-year-old blogger for two days. In that time Wet Seal gained 9,000 new followers through the blogger simply posting photos of herself wearing Wet Seal clothing.
I studied abroad in Iceland last fall, and to my surprise all of the Icelanders I met were obsessed with Snapchat. Using Snapchat for your business not only reaches a large young demographic of individuals just now building their brand loyalty, but it does that on a global scale.
