Last week I explained how to write a press release, but how do you promote it once it’s written? Keep reading for 5 ways to share your release as part of your public relations strategy.
5 Ways to Promote Your Press Release
1. Send it out on the wires. This means a company like Marketwired will send your press release to all the different media desks in whichever region and industry you specify. There is cost involved; it’s often worth it.
2. Pitch it to appropriate media contacts. If your press release is newsworthy enough, email it directly to appropriate reporters. Add a brief note at the top of the message that is personally addressed to the journalist and explains why their readers would care about your news. Then copy and paste your press release into the bottom of the email so it’s easy for them to read and possibly use.
3. Post it on your website. If you have a “newsroom” page on your site, post it there for additional visibility. If you don’t have a specific page it would make sense to post the press release, write a blog post about it instead.
4. Share it via social media. You have news, so tell your followers about it! Write an update introducing the press release for each of your social media accounts and link to it on your website, whether it’s on your newsroom page or in a blog post. If you really want your followers to read the press release, consider running a promoted post about it on Facebook.
5. Include it in your e-newsletter. Public relations is all about communicating your message to as many different audiences as possible. Although your press release is probably too long for an e-newsletter, write a compelling paragraph or two about it and link to it so your readers can see more.
