It’s easy to get into the habit of posting the same kind of Twitter updates one day to the next. This is necessary, of course, as consistency is important, but do you ever wonder if it is time to shake things up a little? What would that even look like? And what are the benefits? Launching a Twitter campaign, if done in a way that truly engages users, can actually bring in masses of followers. Take Twitter user and artist @GregBurney for example. By promising to sketch the profile pictures of the first 3,000 people to follow him on the social networking site, Burney gained 2,000 followers in just one day. His previous head count? Only 70. Now he maintains a little under 5,000 followers. Do you have to sketch all your incoming followers to bring them in? Probably not. But take Burney as an excellent example of how you can use your expertise, and a fun initiative, to bring the followers in by the droves. Here are some tips to get your Twitter campaign up and running:
- What Can You Do For Your Followers?
Before you start a Twitter campaign, ask yourself what you have to offer to your followers and what expertise you have. A social media campaign should show followers a little bit about what you do and who you are as a company in an engaging way, while not actually giving them the meat of your service. This should be a teaser, piquing the follower’s interest and showing them how great you treat your consumers, but only giving them a taste of what you have to offer so that they want more and will want to completely jump on board with your company. What sort of promotion can you give, game can you play, mini service can you offer, or activity can you host that is relevant to your service and message, and will get your followers engaged?
- Create a Call to Action:
Now that you have identified what you will do for your followers, get the word out about your Twitter campaign! When introducing your campaign to users, you should do so in a way that prompts them to take action and get involved. This should be an interactive experience, so make what they can do to be a part of this buzz clear. Your campaign should not be you just making an offer of some sort, you also want to make it clear that you want users to follow you and take some sort of action – maybe sharing your tweet. The campaign should have a level of exclusivity where new followers can get benefits, and should be well publicized so that people will want to gain access by following your business’ page. Besides promoting the campaign on Twitter, use your other social media networks to spread the news like Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and LinkedIn. You can also publicize it in your blog and e-newsletter.
