A big congratulations to our client, Laura Peterson! State Farm insurance agent Laura, was recently named the winner of this year’s Woman of the Year of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) – Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay Area Chapter. In a ten-week fundraising period, Laura raised $18,967 to fund research to find cures and better therapies for cancer and provide information and support to blood cancer patients and their families.
Laura was honored when she was nominated for Woman of the Year. A San Jose native, Laura has been involved with the organization for four years. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2001 and launched her State Farm Insurance Agency in Los Gatos a few years after graduating. When she’s not at work, Laura loves to spend time with her family, friends and newly adopted Rottweiler. Laura first became involved with the LLS was in 2008 when she ran the Nike Women’s Marathon and she has been an active supporter of the Society ever since.
“I started my insurance agency 5 years ago in Los Gatos. My local community has supported me tremendously and allowed me to now have time to give back. When LLS nominated me to run for Woman of the Year it felt like perfect timing. What a good way to give back to those that needed it, and the local community that has been so integral in my success,” says Laura.
Laura and seven other candidates collectively raised $165,158 to support blood cancer research and honored patients with the support of their campaign teams and community.
Lisa Alejandre, Executive Director for LLS’ Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay Area Chapter said, “Congratulations to our winners, and to all of our candidates who participated in this year’s campaign. They are all passionate and determined individuals, and leaders in their communities. Their efforts really go far in bringing help and hope to patients and their families.”
Great job, Laura!
