But did you know that Pinterest has officially unveiled its business accounts?

Thousands have been enjoying the fun, easy way to share pictures and ideas through Pinterest. Pinterest has even earned the distinction of being the fastest site to break through the 10-million visitor mark since its launch in March 2010. But did you know that Pinterest has officially unveiled its business accounts? In early November 2012, Pinterest announced the addition of business accounts with business-specific terms of service.

This gives businesses more control over their Pinterest pages and removes some of the roadblocks some businesses have experienced with their brand. For example, businesses have had to work around Pinterest’s signup page, which required a first and last name. Now, companies can simply enter the name of their business.

Companies that are already using Pinterest for their brand are encouraged to convert their existing account to that of a business account. During the sign-up process, companies are encouraged to add “Pin It” and “Follow” buttons to their sites, and embed widgets showcasing their pins. Widgets are an entirely new feature, and will be available both to individuals and to companies. You can also embed up to 30 of the latest pins from one of your top boards to your site.

These tools will make it easier for a brand to draw connections between its proprietary online presence and its account on Pinterest. Just like companies that generate large amounts of written content can leverage Facebook link sharing and conversations between websites and their brand pages; Pinterest’s new widgets help unify a company’s visual content.

This also gives your company more opportunities to generate leads. That’s because every person that comes to your site is a potential customer. Whether your goal is for a visitor to make a purchase or download an eBook, every person that stops and take a peek at your page can help generate more leads for your company.

In Pinterest’s blog post announcing the updates, it said that more features are forthcoming. In the meantime, here’s how to convert your personal Pinterest page to a business page.

  1. Go to the Business Home Page and click the “Convert your existing account” button.
  2. Next you will need to verify your account against your web domain. This means that your full web address will be displayed on the top of your home page, along with the Pinterest red tick of approval. It will require you to upload a small html file to the root of your domain.
  3. Once you’ve uploaded the file there’s a link on the Pinterest screen prompting them to check for it, provided you’ve got the location correct, then you’re all set.

If you’re stuck, check out Pinterest’s blog post about the website verification, it also includes a link to their support team.
