The world of social media is constantly changing and evolving. The new video app from Twitter, Vine, was recently released to the public and is the newest social media tool. Vine allows users to create short, looping videos and distribute them to their social networks. Some businesses may find that this is an extremely effective social media tool.
The looping videos, which are similar to GIFs, can only be up to six seconds long, so it may not seem like enough time for some brands to share any meaningful messages to consumers. However, with the recent increased popularity of GIFs, these looping videos may become very popular. Plus, years ago it seemed unlikely that brands could get through to customers in 140-characters or less, but Twitter has become an essential social media tool for many businesses.
Vine could present another opportunity for businesses to connect with customers on social media and possibly make a quick impression or give a quick preview of a new product. The app could also simply be used to give teasers of full-length videos that can actually present more of a complete message to consumers about a brand or product.
The app could also present new long term advertising opportunities for brands on Twitter. Twitter hasn’t announced any official plans for a Promoted Tweets type of offer for Vine media yet, but such an offering could have some benefits for certain brands, as well as giving Twitter more revenue streams.
Videos from Vine appear in expanded tweets and play automatically. The videos include sound within the Vine app, and when the videos are embedded in tweets, the sound is automatically muted with the option of un-muting.
Vine videos can also include different clips stitched together into one video, rather than just allowing one continuous shot. This sets it apart from some of the other mobile video apps that have launched recently, all looking to create the “Instagram for video.”
Currently, Vine is just available for free on iOS devices, but Twitter says that it is working on bringing the app to more devices in the future.
Many businesses are using Vine to create hype about their businesses. These 15 examples are fantastic. I love Botkier Designs’ video as well as the Wheat Thins Super Bowl promo. Which is your favorite video?
Navigating the world of social media can be confusing for many businesses. Vine is a great new app that will allow business owners to access their customers in a brand new way.
