5167671844_b26432c9acOne of the biggest challenges for social media users can be figuring out an efficient system for maintaining, tracking and engaging with your social networking sites. It’s hard enough to keep up with the status updates from your friends every day, let alone responding to mentions and tags, joining conversations with meaningful input and cultivating connections on each network. And if you maintain a social media presence for your brand or business on top of your personal social networking sites, that’s double the potential content you’re seeing and time you’re investing.

Most social media users know the importance of staying connected to their followers. Posting regular status updates and monitoring fan engagement can be the difference between a successful social media campaign and one that fails. But just because we know the importance of keeping connected on social media doesn’t mean we have endless amounts of time to dedicate to it. One solution to manage the madness is keeping up with your social networking sites via email. There are a few very helpful new tools for managing your accounts via email.

Various services let you manage your social media networks through email updates in a non-invasive way and actually save you time and sanity. You don’t have to log into each account separately, keep 20 browser tabs open, or commit separate valuable chunks of time to each network one by one. Instead, these tools allow you to monitor interaction on status updates and more.

These are our favorite tools for managing social networking sites through email:

• NutshellMail: Constant Contact’s NutshellMail takes copies of all your latest updates in your social networking accounts and places them in a snapshot email. The NutshellMail Update is then sent to your primary email address on your schedule. NutshellMail currently supports Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yelp and Foursquare.

• News.me: News.me, a startup based out of New York, analyzes the links shared by your friends, and the links shared by your friends’ friends, on both Twitter and Facebook, then presents those links in a beautiful, news-friendly reading experience via email.

• TweetyMail: With TweetyMail you can completely bypass the need to go to Twitter.com (or any other Twitter client), thanks to enhanced Twitter notifications, the ability to reply/retweet/share auto-shortened links right from email and total control over the quality and quantity of Twitter data you receive in your inbox. Some premium features do require subscription access after the first month.

You can also use email to create status updates on Facebook by following these 5 simple steps. This process requires a little bit of set-up on your browser, but once you’ve done it, you can post status updates any time, anywhere.
