What is a pin?
You probably recognize it as a Personal Identification Number, but in social media terms, a pin is your new advertising team’s best friend.
In social media, businesses are fluent in posting random facts, interesting articles and shocking numbers to catch a prospective customer’s attention. But what about presenting your company visually?
Pinterest is still a newbie to the social media world, but with 10 million unique monthly visitors it’s the fastest growing social network in history. So how do companies create pin-worthy business and attract Pinterest followers?
Make the office public. Everyone loves a backstage pass, especially when it comes to seeing how their products are made and who’s making them. Next time you throw an office party, pin pictures on a board possibly labeled “Life at [your company].” Customers will feel assured that the brand they’re interested in has real people working behind it.
It’s not always about you. But it can still be related. Say you’re a company that sells office supplies. Pinning quotes and scenes from TV shows such as “Newsroom,” “The Office” or “Mad Men” isn’t selling your product, but Pinterest followers will find these extras fun and engaging. Possible board ideas could be “Lessons Learned” or “TV Meets Reality.”
Use it as a billboard for upcoming events. Save some money on the highway rental space and create a board that advertises upcoming events or products. Pin dates, specifics and fun facts to spread the news and create a buzz and gain Pinterest followers without blowing up other social media.
Feature your customers and their feedback. See someone actively using your product? Pin it to a board strictly for your product at work. Get feedback from Pinterest followers and find out quickly what’s working and what isn’t. Also, place a Pinterest icon on your company page!
Be educational. Not everyone wants to hear about adhesive on Post-It notes, but I bet they’d be curious about how to recycle paper in-house and save money. Pinning to a board of How-To’s is great for customers. Remember, the pin doesn’t have to be original, but you must include attribution credit if you use an outside source.
How do you use Pinterest successfully for your business? We’d love to hear from you!
