Your company is brilliant, but do your Facebook fans know that? You’ve developed great content and quirky posts that you believe will get likes from around the universe; yet when you post this awesome content, there are no likes to be found. What’s wrong?
Probably more than you think.
Here are 5 mistakes you might be making when it comes to lassoing Facebook likes.
1. Broad and/or too personal questions.
If you just asked your Facebook fans what they had for breakfast that morning or what they think about the scorching hot weather we’re having, chances are no one is going to come out of the woodwork to comment about their exceptional blueberry pancakes. Instead, get a little controversial and ask a question that is going to drive a discussion or contest. Have fun with it and the likes will soon follow.
2. Lack of inspiration.
Yesterday was Monday – we all needed plenty of inspiration to get through the day and we’ll need even more to get through the next one (especially after 4th of July!). Be playful but real – people like a company that is human.
3. You don’t reward your Facebook fans.
Let’s be honest – most people become a fan of a page to score some insider deals or perks from the company. But they do like your business too, and your product, so reward them by offering a freebie or perk every now and then. Try simple posts like “The first to like gets a free taco!” or “Once we reach 500 likes we will have a drawing for a 20% off coupon.” Turn your likes into #1 Facebook fans.
4. You believe words speak louder than pictures.
Yes, you have 5000 characters per post on Facebook, but in no way does that mean you should use them all with fluffy and useless language. Everyone loves an excellent visual aid or even a link to a killer informative website. Tease your audience with some words and let the pictures do the rest; they’ll really like you for it.
5. It’s all about you.
Sorry, this statement still rings true even when it comes to your company’s Facebook page. You’ve already gathered Facebook Fans; that means that they already know a good portion about you. So stop constantly trying to educate them about what you do and how great you are at it; they’ve heard enough. As Christopher Litster, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Constant Contact, says: “People go to Facebook to catch up and connect. When they want to buy, they’ll go to your website.”
These are just a couple ways businesses can improve their Facebook likes. What have you found to be successful? We’d love to hear about it!
