I’m almost positive that at some point you have had one or more of these thoughts regarding a social media strategy:
- I’m not sure what to do with social media, so I do nothing.
- There are too many options.
- I like real-world networking; social media isn’t for me or my company.
Sound familiar? While I understand the overwhelming feeling of social media optimization and services that are available to you, social media in itself is extremely beneficial in that it can help you do your job better and network to people who were otherwise out of reach. If you aren’t taking advantage of social media services you are practically invisible to prospective clients. But where to you start when building a social media strategy? It starts with three social media elements.
1. Be Real
Nobody likes an impostor or vague company that posts random content on social media. The number one thing to remember when building a social media strategy is authenticity. The connection your customers and clients make between what they see on social media and what they experience should be streamlined. How do you do this? Brand your bio and info with passion, personality and an appropriate point-of-view. Use a current headshot and social media optimization tools such as keywords, video and images that reflect your company.
2. Be Focused
A key to social media optimization is clear and concise content that answers your customer’s questions immediately. This doesn’t mean that you need to try and score points by being on every social media platform out there. Instead, learn where your customers are and what channels they use to get their information. Your social media strategy should be directly targeted with your clients’ convenience in mind.
3. Be Consistent
Whatever social media services you decide to use, be consistent. Consistent posts are essential to social media optimization as well as recognition and memorability. If you want to build a strong brand you must consistently put effort into the relationships and image you’ve created. Update each of your social media platforms regularly.
Building a successful social media strategy includes more than just these elements, but it is a great place to start! What other social media optimization tools do you suggest?
