A social media strategy is very similar to a coach creating football plays for their team. Coaches, as well as small businesses, need a game plan to get them to the goal line. No matter what uniform your team wears, the objectives are the same: execute a plan, meet the goal and keep your fans coming back for more.
As a resident cheerleader of small businesses, here are five ideas to get your social media strategy from kick off to touchdown:
1). Assess Your Situation: What is your goal? This is the first question small businesses should ask themselves when creating a social media strategy to integrate into their marketing efforts. Whether you’re trying to gain more fans or increase awareness of your organization, make sure that your social media strategy aligns with what you value.
2). Know Your Competitors: Try planning your social media strategy around what you learn about your competitors; if your competitors aren’t doing well at social media, than you can one-up them by being great at it. On the flip side, what are your competitors doing well? Take a note from their play book and roll it into your social media strategy.
3). Practice: There is no doubt that teams of all kinds need practice to excel at their ambitions. Revising your social media strategy a few times a year may seem frustrating, but the more you learn from experience and tailor your content to your target demographics, the better the outcome. Taking the time to critique your social media strategy can definitely be worth the time and effort.
4). Work as a Team: Small businesses are often led by passionate people who are excited about their projects. Who better to create a social media strategy than those who fully support your product or service? By brainstorming ideas, your staff can help you decide what is important in marketing your company and how to go about doing it.
5). Measure Your Success: After implementing your social media strategy, be sure to identify if the changes are helping or hurting your business. Look closely at insights and analytics for each social platform. After figuring out what works, you can then adjust your game plan for success.
