As we continue getting to know Three Girls’ team, it’s time to meet someone who’s been with the company for more than seven years: the Senior Director of Publicity, Emily Sidley!
Emily Katherine, born September 8, loves that she was named after two very special people in her parent’s lives: her grandfather, Emil, and one of her mom’s best friends from middle school, Kathy (they’re even still good friends today!).
Emily currently lives in the Olympia, WA area with her husband, Matt, and daughter, Rebekah. She grew up in San Jose, CA – the heart of Silicon Valley – and went to college in Tacoma, WA. After she graduated and moved back to California, she missed the gray skies and misty rain of western Washington so much that she moved back.
One thing Emily doesn’t like about the Pacific Northwest is its lack of really good Chinese food. But she does love the chicken teriyaki restaurants that are on every corner. She also has a huge sweet tooth and loves pretty much any type of dessert (chocolaty, fruity, etc.) and especially enjoys funfetti cake – she and her husband even had it at their wedding!
Emily is a HUGE San Francisco Giants fan. “Last year I was 8.5 months pregnant during the World Series and kept joking I was going to go into labor from getting so into the games.” She also really likes football and is a big Cal Bears fan (college) and roots for the Cleveland Browns alongside her husband. They even went to Cleveland to see the Browns play on Monday Night Football for their first wedding anniversary.
When it comes to travels, Emily loved seeing the gorgeous fjords and eating the delicious reindeer in Norway, although her trip to China was probably more interesting as it was so different from anywhere else she’d ever been. “I went with the music program from my high school, and they wouldn’t let us leave the airport until all the adults signed we wouldn’t wear the sweatshirts we made for the trip because the map didn’t include Taiwan on them. That was the first time a legal authority ever told me I couldn’t wear something.” Someday she’d love to visit Iceland, Israel and one of the African countries.
When it comes to hobbies, Emily likes craft projects that don’t require a lot of skill. “For example, I love making homemade shirts by buying a plain white tee and decorating it with puff paint. I’m just finishing up one I made for my daughter to wear for her first birthday in a couple of weeks!” She also likes organizing things, digitally or physically. “It’s really bugging me at the moment that our DVDs aren’t in alphabetical order right now.”
When she’s not working, Emily likes to go for a lot of walks with the baby. She also enjoys hanging out with friends or vegging out and watching TV. She also loves going to midnight premiers, especially whens she’s with a group of friends that dresses up. “I think that’s probably one of the few things I really miss since becoming a mother. I love my new role as ‘Mom,’ but I’m looking forward to being able to go to midnight movie premieres again (in many years).”
Stay tuned to meet another member of Three Girls’ team!
