As the holidays loom ahead, the inevitable party planning process begins. As we all know, events such as fundraisers and holiday celebrations are inevitable during this time of year. Despite the stress of planning several events for customers and staff, the holiday season is a great time for businesses to engage and increase their social media followers. Platforms such as Twitter offer businesses a great way to get the word out about their business events and create buzz with ease.
As you gear up for your next holiday extravaganza, here are five tips on how to use Twitter to promote your special event:
1). Create a Hashtag: The first rule of Twitter engagement is the almighty hashtag. When planning event announcements and online invitations, create a specific hashtag that relates to your event and brand. You want to create a hashtag that is short, sweet and to the point. For example, if you’re a bakery named Star Cookies that is hosting a charity ball, a hashtag example would be: #StarcookiesBall2013.
2). Integrate Hashtags Into All Promotions: Once you’ve created your custom event hashtag, it’s important to integrate it within all your online promotions. From event announcements, event reminders and email blasts, always include your Twitter event hashtag for optimum engagement.
3). Host Engagement: If a special guest hosts your event, ask them to mention their role as a host on Twitter. Engage with that person by asking them specific event related questions, and also don’t forget to thank them via Twitter prior to attending your event. By engaging your hosts or special guests, their followers may be more inclined to learn a little more about your business and follow you.
4). Share Party Planning Photos: Setting up your event maybe stressful, but it can also give your followers a look at how hard your business is working to pull off your next shindig. During the day of the event, try posting photos of your event set-up. This is also a great time to mention and thank sponsors or vendors on Twitter for contributing to your celebration.
5). Share Related News: If your event obtains media coverage, tweet it! Sharing news stories related to your event will give your followers the impression that your event is an important one to attend this season. Thanking the news organization on Twitter may also boost your engagement with their followers.
Promoting via Twitter is a great addition to your current event marketing strategy. It is important to note that Twitter should not be the only tool of promotion for your event, but is necessary nonetheless. Do you plan on using Twitter to promote your holiday events this season?
