We all want to make a statement, especially when it comes to a bold business brand. Since working in telecommunications, I’ll admit that my stock of business casual attire has depleted. But while on the search for a tailored blazer, the thought of company branding crossed my mind. A lot of businesses get so comfortable in their ways that when it comes to a new personal brand, they’re scraping the bottom of the drawers. Here are a couple tips to build the brand wardrobe for your company.
1. Find an example/inspiration
Just as my fashion icons range from Jackie O. to Victoria Beckham, the same can be applied to discovering a new business brand. Research different companies that you admire or want to emulate; use these businesses as inspiration for creating your own brand and figuring out how to make it effective. Also, learn from train wreck mistakes.
2. Ask for help
Never be afraid to ask for a little guidance, that’s what it’s there for! Seek out help from PR professionals (ahem!) or other business experts that can walk you through the process of putting together an entirely new look for your business brand. You are not expected to do it all on your own all the time.
3. Be consistent
I have a lucky blue dress that I used to wear to interviews and meetings when I first started out. I would pair it with different shoes, blazers, jackets or jewelry but the basic foundation was always there. Think about it the same way with your business brand. You have customers who are already loyal to your basic company product and/or service, you just need to accessorize it a bit.
4. Decide on your message
The way a person dresses can say a lot about them and what image or message they’re trying to get across. I don’t walk into meetings wearing a tank top and jeans if I want to portray professionalism. Make a firm decision about the brand message you want to send and stick to it.
5. Evolve
Just because it worked then, doesn’t mean it will work now. Keep up with company branding trends and evolve as time goes by; this shows that you are relevant and in tune with the needs and wants of your customers.
Building a well-rounded company brand wardrobe takes time (unless you have lots and lots of money to spend). Be patient and you’ll have a brand new look soon enough.
