How are your content management skills? If you’re keeping up with 2014 social media trends then you know that video content on your website is a big key to success this year. But did you get a little too excited with your videos? Posting videos online just for the sake of content isn’t going to get you anywhere, nor is it going to impress those important customers. Before you dive into another film for website content, take note of these four clues that your videos might not be all that.
1. You’re forgetting the basics.
It’s very probable that you didn’t go to film school. Online videos haven’t been around for that long and the competition is intense. But the basics (writing, editing, production and distribution) are qualities that you have to master if you stand a chance of success in online content management. Go a little deeper than your typical conversation and be forward and abrupt. You need their attention right away. Fight for it.
2. Your videos are too long.
You are not creating the next Oscar-winning film. The average length of video as website content should roll in around three minutes or less. Go longer than that and your audience is bored.
3. Your content is out of context.
Yeah, I know that it’s the “cool” thing to be abstract and ridiculous, but when it comes to content management on your website, it’s time to get a little more centered. There are so many commercials that I love but I couldn’t tell you what the product or service was if my life depended on it. Videos posted on your website should be in line with the context of your business and relay information to the customer that is relevant, not an artistic revelation.
4. Your videos aren’t funny or down to earth.
Your website content is going to be mostly made up of business jargon and serious talk. Use your online videos to bring your business to life with some clever humor and human experience. Customers want to relate to you but they also want to laugh and see that there’s a real person behind the brand.
