It is January again, which means many people have just bought gym memberships, excited for results from their New Year’s resolutions. I have also recently begun frequenting the gym with more regularity when it dawned on me how similar going to the gym is to social media marketing.
Social media marketing is a process of making your business more attractive, just like going to the gym where, over time, you see results. Also like going to the gym, it is easy for you to lose dedication to your social media marketing campaign which gives you zero positive results. Here are some ways in which being successful in utilizing your gym memberships translates over to being successful with your social media marketing strategy.
For starters, when people decide to buy gym memberships, they often times don’t make a schedule for working out. They just go occasionally and generally stop going all together after just a few visits. Your social media could be the same way. Without a schedule, your posts will be inconsistent, and eventually, you might start posting infrequently or not at all. Just like you won’t see results in your body if you aren’t working out, you won’t get a response from followers if you aren’t utilizing your social media.
Along with lacking a dedicated schedule, many gym goers lack a strategy once in the gym. Some people waste time in the locker room, hit up a cardio machine for about 15 minutes (until they get bored), maybe use a weight machine (with not enough resistance), and then they are done. A workout like this lacks substance and wastes the money you are spending on your gym memberships. Do your social media updates have substance or are they just wasting you and your follower’s time? Having a social media strategy will allow you to utilize your social media account to its best ability. Tailor the content towards your readers’ needs, just like a workout can be tailored towards your body’s needs.
Going to the gym should make your body feel good and hopefully look good. The same applies to social media. If you put in the time you should see positive results that make your company look great! It may not be immediate, but over time people will take notice and respond. Make 2014 a year of positive results whether you’re pumping some iron or ramping up your social media!
