Once again, Facebook has updated their site, this time with an emphasis on Pages. What does this mean for your Business’ page? According to Facebook, the Pages update should make it easier for Facebook fans to find the tools they most often use. Some speculate the change is because the previous design was too advanced for some users.
A few of the new key features are the News Feed which now shows updates all in one line,
a larger call out to business’ About section, easier access to main administrative tools, and a “Pages to watch” tool which lets businesses create a list of pages that are similar to their own, and then they can compare performance.
The changes will continue to roll out in the next few weeks and in the meantime your business can prepare in these 3 ways:
- Revive Your About Section: Since your Facebook page will now have an emphasized About section, you’ll want to make sure your information is up to date. Different business types will have specific information depending on what they do. For example, brick-and-mortar businesses will display a map, phone number, hours of operation, “likes” and visits, information about the business, apps, photos, videos, reviews, posts to the page and the pages your business “likes.” While online-only businesses can expect to see “likes,” information about the business, apps, photos, videos, posts to the page and pages your business “likes.”
The key though is to include current information about your business with a description of what you do and even your mission statement. Also, be sure to include the link to your business’ site.
- Find Pages to Watch: Now that you can look at another business’ Facebook page with ease, you can look at businesses similar to your own to compare performance. Facebook will tell you these pages’ Total Page “likes,” New Page “likes,” Posts this Week and Engagement this Week. This tool can be used to watch competitors to see if their “likes” skyrocket someday, then you can see what caused the rise in engagement and try it for yourself. You can also use this tool to look at non-competitors to learn from their marketing techniques.
- Ignore the Daily Reach: It was hard to ignore the daily reach on your Facebook page in the past with the “People Talking About This” number. The new layout though has a “This Week” column that provides admins information about current ads, page “likes,” post reach, and unread notifications and messages. This feature will allow you to get a better gauge on your Facebook interactions in the long-term verses the day-to-day.
