Rain gets a bad rap. True, no one likes soggy feet or the feeling when an ice cold drop trickles down your neck. These inconveniences aside, precipitation is a critical component of modern life; so too is social media. While the latter may not dirty your glasses, it’s easy to draw a comparison between the two.
Grow Flowers & Business
You need only look to the droughts plaguing large parts of the country to see the effects of no rain. Sunshine has the ability to create, but only when combined with water. The lesson here is stagnation. Weather, like a good social media strategy, works best when there’s diversity. There’s no need to inundate your followers with updates when a steady trickle will do just fine.
Monitor Growth
There’s a reason television stations run the weather every ten minutes in the morning. We need to prepare and the best way to do that is with up to date information. Social media is no different. Monitoring which updates are performing and which aren’t will help your business grow.
Do Some Weeding
Sometimes the combination of rain and sunshine produce unfavorable outcomes. During the summer you’re just as likely to grow a weed as you are flowers or vegetables. When this happens, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Weeds make it harder for the good stuff to grow. Identify the impediments in your social media strategy. Is the information you’re providing relevant, timely or useful? Are you posting during the right time to reach your target audience? A little digging will yield results.
An effective social media strategy needs fertile ground in order to grow and that part is up to you. Come to think of it, there is one major difference between rain and social media. In order for your business to thrive you have to create the elements for success – Mother Nature isn’t going to be helping you.
