In case you haven’t heard, George Clooney got married (…sorry grandma)! While the world’s most handsome bachelor is now officially off the market, his wedding to Amal Alamuddin has been covered by most every media outlet onthe planet and every picture has been obsessed over. This glamorous wedding has become larger than the two superstars and lessons can be learned from it.
3 Marketing and Public Relations from George Clooney’s Wedding
- Show Gratitude
Having a destination wedding can be expensive, not just for the couple getting married but for their guests as well. The newlyweds had their ceremony in Venice, Italy and thanked their guests for coming. Besides hosting what can only be thought of as the best party ever, they also gave their guests iPods and a picture with a special note from the couple. While you may not be able to handout iPods and personalized frames to your customers, you can show thanks and you should. Showing gratitude to customers and fellow employees can go a long way in terms of loyalty and morale. A simple handwritten thank you note card can go a long way!
- Don’t Get Lost in the Hype
Unless you are like some other celebrity couples who recently got married, having the world poke around your personal business may sound like an unbearable situation. Having everyone talk about you can be dangerous for some, so it’s important to stick to your guns. If your business or products are taking off, it is important not to lose sight of what you just did right. So often, companies completely change their original models and plans when they achieve success. Manage expectations and listen to what people love about your company; don’t change and leave your customers confused.
- Be Open to Change
For the past two decades, George Clooney was asked if he would ever get married again (Clooney’s first marriage ended in 1993). And for the past 20 years he always said no. While it is laughable now to hear him dismiss marriage, it is important to keep your mind open to the possibility of change. As a business owner, by getting stuck in your ways you may close yourself off to changes that could improve your company. As stated above, don’t lose your principles, but also keep an eye out for better opportunities that are out there.
