1. Make a list, check it twice. Santa’s list is infamous. Not only does he keep a list, but he double checks it. Whether you’re building a media list, keeping track of sales leads or creating a list of future blog topics, it’s important to stay organized and be as accurate as possible.
2. Repeat your message. There are a few key phrases Santa is known for:
- “Ho, ho, ho!”
- “Merry Christmas!”
- “What would you like for Christmas?”
- “Have you been a good boy/girl this year?”
Just like Santa, you want to be known for your key messages. Repeat yourself as often as possible in as many creative ways you can think of in your public relations campaign.
3. Be jolly. Okay, ‘jolly’ might not describe your business, but the idea is to be positive. I get it – bad things happen sometimes, but your company’s social media channels aren’t the place to complain about it. Neither is your blog, e-newsletter nor with the customers in your store. Sure, call a close friend or business partner to discuss your challenges, but keep your public face positive and professional.
4. Ask for help. Even Santa doesn’t do it all on his own. He has a full workshop full of elves, reindeer helping him on Christmas Eve and Mrs. Claus fixing his suit when needed. Don’t be hard on yourself if you need help, too!
