We all know the basics of marketing and branding our businesses. We know that social media is vital. We know that it is important to buy advertising in strategic places. We know that we need to carry our business cards with us all the time. These methods of marketing are all valuable and effective, but everybody does these things. If you want people to really notice your small business, you’re going to have to get creative with your marketing and branding. Here are a couple of out-of-the-box ways to promote your business.
Use Your Car
Wearing a company branded shirt or carrying a bag printed with your business name and logo are great ways to passively market your company. Why not apply that same logic to your car? It is incredibly easy to get magnet signs for cars printed up for relatively low prices (most run around $30ish). Then you just stick the signs to your car doors and every time you go somewhere, you’re marketing your company! The great thing about this option is that it isn’t permanent. If you get a new car, the signs can simply be switched to the new vehicle.
THE TRICK: Put the signs on both sides of your car. This way you get as many eyes on it as possible. The signs should also be simple. Include just your company name, logo and website address, and don’t worry about including a phone number. After all, most people who will see your signs are driving. You want them to get the gist, not risk an accident trying to remember a phone number on your signs.
Get Involved in the Community
Another great way to raise visibility is to host a local park clean up. Provide bags that have your company’s name printed on them and then, at the end of the day, provide t-shirts or bags that have your logo and website URL on them as a thank you for people turning out to volunteer. And don’t forget to call the press and let them know about your community involvement!
THE TRICK: Make sure to get permission from the city first and call your local schools to let them know what you’re doing. Students are always looking for community service projects and will love getting free stuff for participating – the more volunteers you have the more people will be walking around town wearing your logo. The cost of the giveaways won’t necessarily be prohibitive; bulk pricing is usually available. Another great way to beef up your visibility is to sponsor a local pee-wee soccer or little league team. Put your logo on the team uniforms and on all of the team rosters and handouts where parents will be sure to see it.
There are lots of creative things that you can do to market your company. If you can find a fun way to use your logo, it counts as a marketing opportunity! What creative ways have you succeeded in getting your logo and company name out there? Share in the comments below!
