Yesterday, I found myself picking out a tank top and heading out to enjoy a day in the sunshine. After basking in the rays, I remembered it was the middle of February. This quick weather change reminded me of the fast-moving world of public relations. Here are 3 PR lessons from unseasonably warm weather you can use in your next campaign.
3 PR Lessons from February Sunshine
- Be Prepared for Anything
Just like it became 70 degrees overnight, the temperature can drop to below freezing before you know it. Keep a stock of tee-shirts, rain boots and a snow parka in your closet to prepare for any weather coming your way. A PR pro also prepares for any kind of media attention, positive or negative, with a well-stocked arsenal of pitches, press releases and kind words about the company.
- Grow Your Network
A sunny day at the park is one of the best ways to meet other like-minded people. Anyone else out in the beautiful weather was someone I wanted to meet! Unseasonable sunshine allows you to get outside, meet new people and grow your network. Public relations networks are important. Grow and cultivate your network regularly because you never know when you may need to call up a contact.
- Enjoy the Day
Just like a sunny February probably won’t last, your successes and failures won’t last either. The public relations world moves quickly and nothing stays on the front page for long. When you get great news, bask in the moment. When you receive a bad media mention, remember that too won’t last. Enjoy each moment and build on the momentum of your successes or failures to share your brand’s story.
Being prepared for anything, having a well-pruned network of contacts and enjoying each moment are all PR lessons you can use for your next campaign. For more tips on public relations and marketing, rain or shine, visit the Three Girls Media blog today.
