It’s almost January 1, which for many people means it’s time to think about New Year’s resolutions. What goals do you plan to set for your business this year? As you start kicking ideas around, it might help to consider the most popular marketing trends for 2014. After all, it’s extremely important to stay relevant.
Marketing Trends in 2014
Here are three marketing trends coming up in 2014:
- As this infographic shows, social media marketing budgets are going to double within the next 5 years and 52% of all marketers found at least 1 customer on Facebook in 2013. In 2014, social media marketing is going to continue to be vital to any business’ strategy.
- As Social Media Today explains, “Videos are hot, hot, hot!” Going back to that infographic I mentioned, having a video on your landing page increases conversions by 86%; 65% of your audience learns visually; and the brain processes visual data 60,000 times faster than text. Another article on Social Media Today also predicts, “Images will matter more than text.”
- As Yahoo! Finance explains, “Email marketing, social media marketing, search marketing, display marketing and mobile marketing top the list of areas for increased spending in 2014.” The infographic I linked to backs this up citing that 78% of CMOs think custom content is the future of marketing.
New Year’s Resolutions for Business Owners
With these marketing trends in mind, what New Year’s resolutions should you set for your business? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Focus on social media marketing. Try to improve upon what you’re already doing. For example, if you’ve gotten good at posting on Facebook consistently, try adding in Google+. Or, if you have been focusing on updating your social media networks 3-4 times per week, try increasing it to 1-2 times per day.
- Post more visuals. Set a number of specific photos or videos you’re going to post on your social media networks each week. A good goal to start with could be 1 video and 3 images each week. Then, as you get better at coming up with visuals, you can increase how often you use them.
- Invest in content creation. Whether this means finding time in your day to blog regularly or outsourcing your e-newsletter to another company (like Three Girls, for example!), remember that creating content is an important component of your marketing plan and needs to be treated as an investment. As we’ve seen for ourselves and numerous clients, there’s a direct correlation between how much you put in and the results you get out.
