For the last three years I have been pursuing my Master’s Degree, and in just 5 weeks I will complete my thesis, walk across a stage and graduate with my classmates. While it will be an incredible feeling to be done, the only feelings I have right now are ones consistent with headaches from reading, carpel tunnel from writing and Red Bull induced sugar highs. In this blog post, I introduce three marketing, public relations and social media tips and tricks that I have picked up from writing my final Master’s thesis.
3 Lessons from Writing a Thesis:
1. Be prepared to change what doesn’t work: While writing a thesis, I have come to understand from first-hand experience that your first proposal may need a few revisions before it is really worth executing. Be willing to make changes to your marketing or public relations campaign to ensure the highest level of productivity and to maximize your results.
2. Be willing to take the advice of your advisors: Don’t think you have to go it alone. I tried to do my entire thesis without ever consulting someone who has done it before and it ended up halting my progress multiple times. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! 3. Never take credit for something that isn’t yours: Plagiarism is a huge no no in the academic world, but carries some pretty heavy weight in the real world as well. Always be sure to give credit where credit is due; if something isn’t your idea, don’t take the glory. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use stellar content to your benefit, but it does mean that you should give professional courtesy to the hard work and dedication that its initial creator put into its inception.
