Three Lessons from Sunny Spring Days in Seattle:
1. When it happens, grab it and take advantage: Sunny days don’t stay long in Seattle, or almost anywhere in Western Washington for that matter. When great weather hits, we get out of the house and soak up every ray of sunshine we possibly can, because five minutes later the opportunity for fun in the sun could be long gone. Always be monitoring your campaigns and be ready to take advantage of opportunities as they come your way. Marketing and social media chances come around on a regular basis but you have to willing to do what it takes to utilize them fully. No one likes a missed opportunity!
2. Don’t be afraid to try something new: When it’s sunny, all I want to do is play outside! I like trying new and unfamiliar things like hiking or biking, trying a new beach, having lunch in a new city or even taking a ferry to one of the islands around Puget Sound. The point is, I love trying things that I wouldn’t ordinarily try otherwise. Try using this mindset when you are planning your next social media or marketing campaign. Don’t be afraid to take risks.
3. Come prepared: Rays hit the skin of Seattlelites like a toddler’s hand to stove; it seems like a good idea until we are in scorching pain. We all have to remind ourselves to bring sunscreen and water to prevent heat related injury. This concept can be directly applied to social media, marketing and PR efforts due to the unexpected nature of the job. Always expect the unexpected and come prepared to tackle those challenges head on.
