When I was a journalist, I would often get asked by customers and patrons the following question:

“What do I have to do to get on the front page?”

Are you front page worthy?

Are you front page worthy?

As a reporter quite low on the hierarchy chain, it wasn’t my place to tell a person the qualifications needed to be front page material. Honestly, it wasn’t anyone’s place except the Editor-in-Chief. But my time in the journalism field did soon teach me what makes something “front page worthy.”

While spotlight print newspaper coverage might not be as high on the priority list for businesses anymore, the concept of front page appeal still applies. Forums, news websites, blogs and online magazines, as well as other media, will feature stories on their homepage for their readers to enjoy. By the way, if your business is being seen on the homepage of a major website, you’ve definitely accomplished front page stardom.

So what gets you there?

3 Ways to Pass the Front Page Test

1. Captivating Content

The journalism world often suffers from slow news days, but they will still reach far and wide to get something captivating on their front page. Bloggers want fresh ideas, news websites want unique content and online magazines need a great home page photo. By creating this type of content, you will make it easier for the media to feature you and/or your business. Be unique and always think outside the box. What will capture someone’s attention?

2. A Great Story

It will always be true: Everyone loves a great story. What is the story behind your business? How is it unique? Learn how to sell you or your business through stories that are easy to comprehend and interesting.

3. Purpose

It’s so important for your business to reach customers on a personal level. What is the purpose or goal of your company? How are you helping others? Writers love to feature someone or something that has a passion. Make sure yours is clear and prevalent in your story.

Even though the Internet is packed with new ideas, stories and never-ending feeds, it’s important to have that front page appeal. What other tips can you think of that can help pass the front page test?
