My husband and I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Jabberwock Inn in Monterey, Ca and were absolutely enchanted by the experience. We had never stayed in a B&B, so weren’t sure exactly what to expect, but any nerves were quickly dashed after a very warm greeting by Dawn and John, the innkeepers, who showed us to a spectacularly comfortable room with views of the Monterey Bay.
The Jabberwock is a ‘theme’ inn based on the Lewis C. Carroll novels. You’re likely most familiar with Alice in Wonderland. The inn is full of wonderful Alice decor – from chess boards to books and tea sets to hats – there’s a new treasure around every corner. Each guestroom is uniquely decorated and has a name, such as the Mome Rath or Borogove, following characters in Carroll’s works. In-room amenities include goose down pillows and comforters, huge Victorian beds with lace-trimmed sheets and fresh flowers in every room.
Settled in our cozy room with a fireplace and jacuzzi for 2, it was clear we were in for a comfortable evening. Wine and appetizers are served nightly and it’s a great opportunity to meet other guests who traveled from destinations around the globe. Over a glass of wine, we perused dozens of menus the innkeepers had collected from nearly every restaurant in Monterey and nearby Pacific Grove and Carmel. Dawn and John were very knowledgeable and offered terrific suggestions.
After a sumptuous dinner at The Fish Market, we headed back to our comfortable bed for a great night’s rest.
The next morning, we were greeted by Dawn and John with a glass of fresh-squeezed juice and sat down for a gourmet breakfast worthy of any restaurant. Each 
morning brought different but sumptuous fare – a truly delicious way to start the day!
Before we headed out to explore Cannery Row, Dawn and John recommended a nearby deli for lunch. We were thrilled with the enormous and delicious sandwiches we got later that day.
The only regret I have about our spectacular trip to the Jabberwock Inn was that we had to leave! I can’t wait for our next trip to Monterey and wouldn’t think of staying anywhere other than Dawn and John’s Jabberwock Inn! For reservations call 888.428.7253 or visit their website to book online.
Andy and I absolutely adore Monterey and are always looking for great places to stay, so we’re definitely going to be checking out the Jabberwock Inn. It can get rather confusing checking out so many different B&B’s online, so it’s always helpful to get a personal recommendation from someone who’s stayed at one and had a great experience there!
