When was the last time you read a book? Not a book that you read for a little light reading, but one that helped educate you. It is important for business professionals to continuously gain new information about their field long after schooling has stopped, and reading a good book can make that happen.

Learn how reading can grow your business

There are many reasons why reading a book about business can be beneficial for your company. For example, if a manager or CEO read books on finance, the possibility of them acquiring new knowledge and being able to share it with their team of employees is high. A national study even found that when knowledge for financial decision-making skills is passed on, people are more apt to be aware of their finances all around (this can improve workplace performance!).

Because reading a book can lead to positive outcomes for your company, the only question left is how to pick the best one. This process can be tedious, so we’ve done the work for you. These next three books come from the New York Times top 10 Hardcover Books for Business. So far this year, they have remained at the top of the list.

Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb

This book has gained a strong following of business professionals (and impeccable reviews) since its release in November 2012. A follow-up to his original masterpiece “The Black Swan”, Taleb writes on the beauty and necessity of chaos, yes, chaos. The stress and tension that come into our lives is actually a stipulation to our survival. After reading this eye-opening book, you many begin to embrace all that life has to offer – even the disorder.

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

“The Power of Habit” was released in early 2012 and has since received esteemed recognition from The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times. The book claims that successful businesses have one thing in common: an ability to transform the habits of their audience. Duhigg focuses on how companies have tapped into these habits and the discoveries that have come from their research; the processes of human nature can in fact be changed to promote new habits, which can have a profound impact on a company’s success.

Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahnemann

Although this book was published in 2011, it has not lost steam. It continues to chug along on the best-seller list, unfaltering. Named the National Academy of Sciences Best Book in 2012, business professionals would be smart to add this book to their collection. Based on the systems of the brain, “Thinking, Fast and Slow” explains the reasons behind the choices we make. A business can benefit from this information when critical decisions or judgment calls need to be made.

Education in the workplace can begin with a book on business. We hope these books are helpful.
