Content marketing is always changing; however, there are a few things that continue to stand out. Last week I shared 5 of the top 10 content marketing trends of 2013. Here are the last 5 content marketing trends to watch for this year.
- Link Building. Link building is the process of improving the visibility of a website or page in search engines via the “natural” or unpaid search results. Including a link in your content from relevant sites and being linked to from someone else’s content is a powerful thing. Links are a large portion of search engines’ algorithms to link-based factors. Through links, engines can analyze the popularity of a website & page.
- Community Driven Content. Content marketers use different types of content creation strategies for a number of reasons, one of which is to address the main points to customers across multiple media. Now with social media, content marketers can get near real-time conversations via platforms like Facebook or get article comments from forums. This makes it easier than ever to know what tough questions need answering. As the demand for interactive, timely and ever evolving content strategy is on the rise, it looks like more content marketers will be taking cues from customers when it comes to drafting their editorial calendars.
- Video Is Still Hot. According to StatisticBrain.com, 4 billion YouTube videos are viewed everyday in 42 countries. That’s a lot of video views around the world. For anyone looking to create viral content, there is no better medium than video. Even if you’re re-using old content or creating something low budget, video is still worth it. Shareable, eye-catching and effective, you don’t have to look far to find videos that have become incredibly successful.
- Print Isn’t Dead. Despite how it may seem, print is far from out of the equation for most businesses. Brands are continuing to take the role of traditional publishers and monetizing their content across all their channels by delivering marketing ROI. However, this is not taking place exclusively in the online domain. Traditional forms of marketing are still well worth it.
- New Roles Emerge. We are already seeing organizations hiring more specialized marketing positions, such as content marketers. The reason is simple: creating, curating and promoting content is becoming the centerpiece of today’s marketing and communication strategies. Moving forward there will be a surge in even more specialized jobs within content marketing itself such as video producers, infographic specialists, researchers and bloggers to name a few.
2013 is going to be a great year for content marketing. Exciting things continue to happen that will benefit those who put in the time and effort. Don’t be intimated by all the hype. Learn to embrace it and the next thing you’ll know it will be like second nature to you.
