Stay current. Focusing on a topic that is current will make it easier to have your content seen. A good place to start is to go think about what is trending in your industry and get ideas from others on social media sites.
Make it mobile. A recent study showed that in 2012, 1 billion people used a mobile device as their main source of of access to the Internet. Whether it’s a video, photographs or an article, make sure your content is mobile friendly.
Optimize it. Using tags, hashtags and sharing buttons for social media sites can go a long way. As Brazen Life mentioned, one of the keys of going viral is to “make it even easier for your audience to use social media to post and comment on your project with just a click.”
Use the KIS technique. Keep it simple. Keep it short. People will repost updates on social media sites if they feel it has value (entertainment, informational, etc.), but nothing can kill your chances of going viral faster than a long, complicated message. Keeping it simple also means steering clear of industry jargon so it appeals to a wider audience.
Make it visual. If the content is not a video, making it visually appealing is extremely important. Freelance Switch said, “If you have a short piece of writing, but it has a compelling visual element in it, such as an interesting picture or chart, it will do much better than text alone.”
