As we explained in last week’s blog post, the 5 W’s are an essential part of your business strategy to relaying concise information to your audience. In this week’s blog post we will cover the next two of the 5 W’s, where and why. We will also discuss how to develop a sound business strategy for your content marketing efforts. Here are a few tips to follow.
Where? – The obvious answer is your company’s website, however, you want to promote that content as well as produce it. Location is becoming increasingly important on where else your company posts content. There are several options to choose from including creating a separate company blog on WordPress or Tumblr if your company website doesn’t have a blog area. If you decide to go that route, make sure to link the blog to your company website so that people can access your content easily.
Often, customers don’t get a sense of “who you are” by solely looking at your company website. Your content should be your company’s voice so make sure to post content links to your company’s social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to increase traffic. Connect with your audience and let them know what you are all about and how you can help them. Become your audience’s go-to site for information.
Why? – Asking “why” helps business leaders define what they want to achieve from their business strategy. Why are you doing all of this? Do you want to generate leads? Improve brand awareness? Become an industry leader? When your business figures out its goals, you can then create business strategy that achieves those goals and works for them in the long run.
How? – Though “how” isn’t one of the 5 W’s it is an important question to ask. How will your company execute this strategy? Will you use blog posts, eBooks, podcasts, online videos, social media, all of these platforms or something new? Will you use one or two or more? You will have to find out what types of content will resonate with your company’s audience, and how to make the content you create work to your advantage. For example, if you choose to blog, you can later take the best blog posts and create an eBook compilation to help promote your company further.
By considering the 5 W’s in your business strategy you can reach a bigger audience, communicate your vision, influence people in your industry, help market your services or products and engage in dialog with others in your industry. All of these things will help your business grow and can help you become an influencer in your industry.
