As we continue in our series getting to know Three Girls, it’s time to meet the woman who started it all: Erika Taylor Montgomery!
Although you may know Erika founded Three Girls in June of 2005, there’s still a lot you don’t know! For example, did you know that when she was a radio DJ in San Francisco, her co-host and producer started calling her ET (short for Erika Taylor which was the name she used on the air) and it stuck? She still responds to ET, Erika T. and, of course, Erika.
Born on November 25, which falls on Thanksgiving every few years, Erika is looking forward to her upcoming birthday – and her upcoming anniversary! She and her husband, Dennis, will celebrate their 5th year of marriage on October 11. They also have a pet pug/chihuahua mix called Effy, a.k.a. Pretty Princess.
Erika grew up in Hayward, CA (in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area) and recently moved to Washington’s capitol, Olympia, in April of this year. When she’s not working, she’s usually out exploring the greater Puget Sound area and getting to know all the cool places and things about her new home state. She also loves fishing, kayaking and watching one of the dozens of TV shows she records and enjoys as a hardcore TV junkie. Erika can also be found regularly cooking up something new and delicious (she loves to cook and is always experimenting with new recipes). What food is her favorite? “Pork spareribs!!! I have the BEST recipe!!”
When it comes to sports, Erika’s much more of a watcher than a player. She and Dennis love watching when their favorite teams are playing (the Denver Broncos and their newly adopted second favorite team, the Seattle Seahawks).
And what about traveling? The most interesting place Erika’s visited is the mountains of Jamaica, where she got to float down a mountain river in an inner tube. She would also love to visit some of the ancient sites in Europe, starting with Britain, and would love to go back to Alaska (she’s been 4 times) to go glacier climbing again and explore some of the areas of the state she hasn’t seen yet.
What else don’t you know about Erika? A lot of people have no idea that for most of her life she struggled with her weight. At her heaviest, she was close to 400 lbs. and death. Her doctors practically scared the life out of her and she’s lost more than 200 lbs. to be the healthy, active, perfectly normal size she is now.
